Empire Hydraulic Service

Nothing can cut into a machine's productivity more than a hydraulic system that's damaged or out of adjustment. At peak efficiency, the modern hydraulic systems on Cat machines are quick, precise and efficient.

Over time, though, the wear and tear of daily work takes its toll on the system. Seals begin to leak, hoses deteriorate, rods get scratched and dinged and contaminants find their way into the system. The hydraulic system becomes slow and unresponsive.

(Left) Hydraulic pumps are carefully disassembled and inspected to determine which parts can be reused and which must be replaced.

Our hydraulic experts at Empire Hydraulic Service take the old pumps, rods and cylinders from the D10N and restore them to new condition. Naturally, the seals and other soft materials are discarded, along with any metal components too pitted or worn to be refurbished.

Bent rods are straightened and polished to restore the smooth finish required for an efficient hydraulic system. Some rods go through our HVC process to add a protective coating of hard, super-smooth metal to resist abrasion and corrosion.

Our Technicians hone cylinders to remove scratches and restore a smooth surface to match the rods. They completely disassemble the hydraulic pumps, clean and restore the reusable parts and reassemble the pumps to produce the volume and pressure needed to drive the system.

Once rebuilt, the pumps and cylinders must pass a series of tests on the EHS test bench. Our test bench is unique. It was designed and built by our technicians to give EHS a tool to insure all repairs and rebuilds function properly before they go back to the customer.

EHS also builds new hose assemblies for the Certified Rebuild. Technicians cut hose lengths and clean inside the hose by firing a plug through the hose at high pressure to eliminate even the smallest contaminants. We use techniques designed by Caterpillar at every stage of the rebuild to ensure the new hydraulic system is absolutely clean and free of contaminants.
