How Much Does a Cat Certified Rebuild Cost?
Typically, an Empire Certified Rebuild will cost from 55% to 65% of the price of a new Cat machine in the same class. For example, if a new D10R is priced at $1,000,000, it will cost about $600,000 to refurbish a D10N to Certified Rebuild condition.
The most important variable determining your savings will be the condition of the components we expect to be able to reuse. Normally, we can reuse parts like the main frame, the ripper frame, the engine block, the transmission casing, drive sprockets, hydraulic cylinders and other hard metal items.
If some of those items have been damaged more severely than is typical for a particular machine in a specific application, the rebuild cost will be at the high end of the range. If reusable components are less worn than expected, the cost will be lower.
Often, our Product Support Sales Representatives can provide accurate cost estimates up front. Obvious damage like cracked engine blocks or bent hydraulic rods is easy to catch. In addition, oil samples and other clues can give a veteran PSSR information about less obvious problems.

(Left) To provide an apples-to-apples comparison, this simplified chart assumes a new D10R sells for a million dollars and that a Brand X tractor in the same class is 10% cheaper. It also assumes prices have not changed for five years. In that scenario, a D10N purchased new in 1997 and rebuilt in 2002 is less expensive than two of the new Brand X tractors.
