Is There a Warranty with a Certified Rebuild?
(Left) We test components as they are rebuilt to ensure all systems perform within specifications for new equipment. The rebuilt engine spends hours on our dyno, operating under load while we monitor every function. Some test benches, like our hydraulic pump and cylinder test unit, were designed and built by Empire technicians and can be found only at Empire.
A certified rebuild costs a lot less than a new machine, but is it really as good as new?
Empire and Caterpillar have enough faith in the quality of each certified rebuild to provide the same warranty given to new equipment. The unit even gets a brand new serial number. Old fluid samples no longer have any meaning, because the original components that were worn or damaged have been replaced or refurbished.
In some ways, the rebuilt machine comes out of our shop better than when it originally rolled off the Cat assembly line. Every update and upgrade Caterpillar released for that model over the years is added during the rebuild process. If the first D10N Cat built goes through the process, it comes out with all the improvements of the last D10N from the factory.
But it won't be a D10R. Model changes often mean different engines, different electronic controls, and even a different appearance. For some owners those differences won't be significant enough to offset the savings in price. For others they will.
